Project News for the Week of May 3

The westbound US 36 Express Lanes are open during testing, and motorists are encouraged to use them because the tolls are waived during testing. The striped white lines indicate the entry to the Express Lanes and. Tolls will be charged at the eastbound Pecos entry point to I-25 and on the existing I-25 Express Lanes.

Now that the westbound traffic is in its permanent configuration, eastbound traffic will be realigned onto the final configuration as well this week. This will require multiple nights of eastbound ramp closures from West Flatiron Crossing to Federal Boulevard. The days and times are listed below.

Northbound and southbound McCaslin Boulevard, between Marshall and Dillon Road, will have nightly lane restrictions, May 3-9, 9 p.m.-5:30 a.m., for roadway construction. Delays should be anticipated.

Express Lane Restrictions

Starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 8, through 4:45 a.m., Monday, May 11, the HOV lane on eastbound and westbound US 36, from I-25 to Pecos Street, will be closed to all traffic, including RTD buses. This closure is necessary for the installation of overhead signs and caissons. All other lanes on US 36 will remain open.

On May 3-9, expect daytime single lane restrictions, 5 a.m.-9 p.m., and nighttime closures, 9 p.m.-5 a.m., of the Express Lanes on northbound and southbound I-25 at 70th Avenue and Clear Creek (where the US 36 ramp and the I-25 ramp converge) for bridge structure work. US 36 traffic will merge with I-25 traffic to a single lane in this location. Expect delays during peak times. Alternate routes are available to US 36 commuters to bypass the construction, which include Broadway to 70th Avenue to the Express Lanes.

Also on May 3-9, 8 p.m.-5 a.m., expect nighttime multiple lane restrictions on southbound I-25 from 62nd Avenue to the Union Pacific Railroad bridge structure for bridge work.

Rehabilitation of the 20th Street bridge is now underway. This work will require the single lane on the bridge to be narrowed and realigned to accommodate the bridge construction. Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 4, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. , and will continue through mid-June. One lane will remain open during construction.

Federal to Church Ranch Boulevard

On Monday, May 4, and Saturday, May 9, 9 p.m.-5:30 a.m., eastbound US 36 traffic will be realigned from Federal Boulevard to the 1STBANK Center. Expect various single lane restrictions on US 36 during these times. The following ramps will be impacted and closed throughout the night as ramp tie-ins are completed. Once the tie-in work is complete, the ramp will reopen, possibly earlier than the posted closure time:

  • Eastbound US 36 on- and off-ramps to Church Ranch Boulevard, 8 p.m.-5:30 a.m.
  • Eastbound US 36 on- and off- ramps to Sheridan Boulevard, 10 p.m.-5:30 a.m.
  • Eastbound US 36 off-ramp to Federal Boulevard, 9 p.m.-5:30 a.m.

No two consecutive ramps will be closed at the same time. RTD buses will be flagged through the closures.

Eastbound and Westbound US 36 Single Lane Restrictions

Eastbound and westbound US 36 will have intermittent single lane restrictions from Federal to Sheridan Boulevard, May 3-9, at the following times:

  • Eastbound US 36 – 9 p.m.-5:30 a.m.
  • Westbound US 36 – 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and 9 p.m.-5:30 a.m.

The restrictions are necessary for sign installations, striping and landscaping. Expect delays in the area if traveling at night. One lane will remain open at all times.

Westbound US 36 On-Ramp to Federal Boulevard Closure

The westbound US 36 off-ramp to Federal Boulevard will be closed May 7 and 8, 6 p.m.-5:30 a.m., for sign installation. Detours will be clearly marked.

Church Ranch to Wadsworth Parkway

Eastbound US 36 Off-Ramp to Wadsworth Parkway Closure

The eastbound US 36 off-ramp to Wadsworth Parkway will be closed May 4 and 5, 9 p.m.- 5:30 a.m., for sign installation. This work will not conflict with scheduled traffic realignments. No two consecutive ramps will be closed at the same times. RTD buses will be flagged through the work zone.

Wadsworth Parkway to 88th Street

Traffic Realignment/ Ramp Closures – 88th Street to the 1STBANK Center

On Sunday, May 3, and Wednesday, May 6, 9 p.m.-5:30 a.m., eastbound US 36 traffic will be realigned from 88th Street to the 1STBANK Center. Expect various single lane restrictions on US 36 during these times. The following ramps will be impacted and closed throughout the night as ramp tie-ins are completed. Once the tie-in work is complete, the ramp will reopen, possibly earlier than the posted closure time:

  • Eastbound US 36 off-ramp to West Flatiron, 9 p.m.-5:30 a.m.
  • Eastbound US 36 on- and off- ramps to Interlocken Loop, 8 p.m.-5:30 a.m.
  • East Flatiron on-ramp to eastbound US 36, 7 p.m.-5:30 a.m.
  • Eastbound US 36 on- and off-ramps to Wadsworth Parkway, 9 p.m.-5:30 a.m.

No two consecutive ramps will be closed at the same time. RTD buses will be flagged through the closures.

Eastbound and Westbound US 36 (Broadway to Sheridan) Delays

Expect up to 15-minute delays on eastbound and westbound US 36, between Broadway and Sheridan Boulevard, May 3-9, midnight-4 a.m., for overhead sign installation. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes.

US 36 Single Lane Restrictions

Eastbound and westbound US 36, from the 88th Street bridge to Wadsworth Parkway, will have nightly single lane restrictions as needed, May 3-9, 9 p.m.-5:30 a.m. These lane restrictions are necessary for sweeping, striping, barrier work and sign installation.

Interlocken On-Ramp to Eastbound US 36 Restriction

The Interlocken Loop on-ramp to eastbound US 36 will be closed Friday, May 8, 9 p.m.- 5:30 a.m., for drainage work. Detours will be clearly marked.

88th Street to Foothills Parkway

McCaslin Boulevard and Ramp Restrictions

The McCaslin interchange, including the on- and off-ramps, and McCaslin Boulevard between Dillon and Marshall Road, will have lane restrictions, May 3-9, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and 9 p.m.- 5:30 a.m., for paving and striping. Expect nighttime ramp restrictions at the westbound US 36 off-ramp to northbound McCaslin Boulevard, May 3-9, 9 p.m.-8 a.m., for the ramp realignment. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times. RTD operations will not be impacted.

Foothills On-Ramp to Eastbound US 36 Restrictions

The Foothills Parkway on-ramp to eastbound US 36 will be closed, May 3-6, 10 p.m.- 5:30 a.m., for temporary pavement construction. Detours will be clearly marked.

Upcoming Closures

Eastbound US 36 Full Closure Under Sheridan Boulevard Bridge 

Crews will be placing the bow beams on the Sheridan Boulevard bridge. To safely complete this work, eastbound US 36 will be closed, for approximately ¼ mile in each direction under the bridge for approximately four nights. This closure will require eastbound traffic to detour off US 36 at the off-ramp and immediately get back onto the highway by accessing the on-ramp. The current schedule is as follows:

  • Friday, May 15, and Saturday, May 16 – 10 p.m.-8m.
  • Sunday, May 17, and Monday, May 18 – 10 p.m.-5:30 a.m.

RTD buses will follow the detour route. Loading areas will not be impacted.
