­Project News for the Week of August 17

This weekend, westbound US 36 traffic from Church Ranch Boulevard to Wadsworth Parkway will be realigned onto a new section of concrete pavement. This alignment is necessary to begin construction on the westbound improvements on the project. Several ramp closures in this area will take place over the course of the week to facilitate this realignment. See below for specific dates and times.

Pecos Street to Federal Boulevard

Federal Boulevard On-Ramp to Eastbound US 36 Lane Restrictions

The Federal Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound US 36 will have a daytime single lane restriction, Aug. 18-22, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., for ramp meter installation. One lane will remain open.

Federal to Church Ranch Boulevard

Westbound US 36 Single Lane Restrictions

Westbound US 36 will have single lane restrictions from Federal to Sheridan Boulevard, Aug. 18-22, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and 8 p.m.-5:30 a.m. One lane of travel will remain open at all times.

Sheridan Boulevard Ramp Restrictions

There will be single lane restrictions, Aug. 18-23, 7 a.m.-5 p.m., on all four of the Sheridan Boulevard ramps.

On Monday, Aug. 18, 10 p.m.-5:30 a.m., the Sheridan Boulevard on-ramp to westbound US 36 will be closed for paving. Detours will be clearly marked.

Eastbound 92nd to Sheridan Ramp Lane Restrictions

The eastbound 92nd Avenue ramp to Sheridan Boulevard will have lane restrictions and flaggers in the area, Aug. 18-23, 7 a.m.-5 p.m., for finish work.

Church Ranch Boulevard On-Ramp Lane Restrictions

The Church Ranch Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound US 36 will have a single daytime lane restriction, Aug. 11-15, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., to complete the curb and gutter.

Ramp Restrictions

To facilitate the westbound traffic realignment from Church Ranch Boulevard to Wadsworth Parkway on Saturday, Aug. 23, the following ramps will be closed throughout the week.

  • Aug. 17 and 18, 8 p.m.-5:30 a.m., westbound US 36 off-ramp to Church Ranch Boulevard
  • Aug. 22 and 23, 8 p.m.-9 a.m., Church Ranch On-Ramp to westbound US 36

Expect single lane restrictions, Aug. 17-21, 9 p.m.-5:30 a.m., and Aug. 22 and 23, 8 p.m.-8 a.m., on eastbound and westbound US 36 from Federal to Church Ranch Boulevard.

Wadsworth Parkway to 88th Street

US 36 Single Lane Restrictions

Eastbound and westbound US 36 will have nightly single lane restrictions, Aug. 18-21, 8 p.m.-5:30 a.m., and Aug. 22 and 23, 10 p.m.-9 a.m., from 88th Street to Church Ranch Boulevard. These lane restrictions are necessary for dirt and concrete hauling, paving, and barrier removal and placement.

Wadsworth Parkway On-Ramp Restrictions

The northbound Wadsworth Parkway on-ramps to eastbound and westbound US 36 will have single lane restrictions for light installation, Aug. 18-22, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. One lane will remain open at all times.

Eastbound US 36 (Wadsworth Parkway to McCaslin Boulevard) Delays

Expect up to 15-minute delays on eastbound US 36, between Wadsworth Parkway to McCaslin Boulevard, Aug. 21 and 22, midnight-4 a.m., for overhead sign structure installation on US 36.

88th Street to Foothills Parkway

US 36 Single Lane Restrictions

Eastbound and westbound US 36 will have nightly single lane restrictions from the 88th Street bridge to Foothills Parkway, Aug. 18-21, 9 p.m.-5:30 a.m., and Aug. 22 and 23, 10 p.m.-9 a.m., for barrier removal, installation and potholing.

McCaslin Boulevard and Ramp Restrictions

The McCaslin interchange, including the on- and off-ramps, and McCaslin Boulevard between Dillon and Marshall Road, will have lane restrictions, Aug. 18-23, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.-5:30 a.m. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times. RTD operations will not be impacted.

Foothills Parkway Ramp Restrictions

The Foothills Parkway on-ramp to eastbound US 36 and the westbound US 36 off-ramp to Foothills Parkway will have daytime and nighttime single lane restrictions Aug. 18-23, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and 7 p.m.-7 a.m., for striping and roadway work. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times.

Upcoming Activities

Eastbound and Westbound US 36 Three-Night Closure at McCaslin Boulevard

Eastbound and westbound US 36 will be closed, Aug. 25-27, 10 p.m-5:30 a.m., for approximately a quarter of a mile on each side of the McCaslin Boulevard bridge. The highway will reopen daily at 5:30 a.m. The closure is necessary for pipe installation and critical bridge support installation. Traffic will be detoured at the off-ramps and routed immediately back onto eastbound and westbound US 36 via the on-ramps. RTD bus routes will not be impacted.

Big Dry Creek Trail Closure

Beginning in mid-September, Big Dry Creek Trail will be closed for approximately six weeks for drainage installation. A detour and signage will be in place to guide trail users.

South Boulder Creek Trail Closure

Starting in mid-August, the South Boulder Creek Trail will be closed on either side of US 36 during construction for the remainder of 2014. As construction permits, the trail will be reopened, but closures will continue throughout 2015. The trail between South Boulder Road and Marshall Road will remain open, however, for the safety of the traveling public, access under US 36 will not be allowed. This closure is necessary for the improvements being made to the South Boulder Creek bridge.

Local Street Restrictions and Ongoing Closures

Sheridan Boulevard Single Lane Restrictions – Northbound and southbound Sheridan Boulevard will have single lane restrictions from 92nd to 88th Street, Aug. 17-23, 8 p.m.-5:30 a.m.

East Turnpike Drive Closure For the safety of the traveling public, Turnpike Drive to the east and west of Lowell Boulevard is closed to all through traffic. This closure is necessary to construct the noise walls and relocate utilities on eastbound US 36. Flaggers will be on-site and local traffic will be allowed through the work zone.

88th Place Right Turn Lane Restriction The right turn lane from 88th Place to northbound Sheridan Boulevard will remain closed through fall 2014. This closure is necessary to complete the final configuration of the new Sheridan Boulevard interchange.
